Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy

Neurodivergent-affirming therapy does not treat your brain as a defect. It helps you understand your nervous system, your needs, your patterns, your strengths, and the cost of trying to survive in environments that demand constant masking.

Frequently asked

Do I need a formal diagnosis?

No. You do not need a formal ADHD or autism diagnosis to explore neurodivergence in therapy. Many people reach adulthood without a diagnosis because their needs were misunderstood, minimized, or missed entirely; sometimes because of stigma, lack of resources, limited access to assessment, or because they learned to mask what was happening. At Rainbowtopia Counseling, we can begin with your actual lived experience: how you think, process, connect, work, rest, communicate, regulate, and move through the world. If a formal assessment would be helpful, we can also talk through what kind of evaluation may make sense and help connect you with appropriate resources or providers for diagnostic clarification. Therapy can support both self-understanding and the practical next steps that may come with it.

Can therapy help with executive functioning?

Yes. Therapy can support planning, routines, boundaries, emotional regulation, and realistic strategies, while also exploring shame and burnout.

Is this therapy affirming for autistic and ADHD clients?

Yes. The focus is on understanding and support, not pathologizing or forcing neurotypical performance.
